The 5th Annual 8 in the Rough is ready for you, are you ready for 8 in the Rough is the question.
On Sunday, September 19th entrants fly into another one of the season's most demanding and challenging, not to mention fun trail running events of the year. With a centralized start/finish area inside Sprague Brook Park at the Casino Building plenty of parking, green grass and one of the nicest county parks awaits you.
The Course: Starting on a short stint of pavement entrants quickly enter the gentle XC ski trails. Just after mile 2 and water station #1 enter single track-and plenty of it. Tight, twisty trails will push your legs to the limit and keep a smile on your face as it's man (or woman) against the trail. Throw in a few small stream crossings, short steep climbs and descents and a solid canopy of trees runners feel the vibe and calorie burn similar to few other events in the region.
A water station at mile 4 and more single track lead runners to a fun downhill section and exit to the park road for a brief respite of pavement and another water station. Re-enter trail and cross the larger section of creek (don't worry, no sharks, and water can be very low depending on summer rains), or shin high! Fun!!! for the final mile to the finish line.
A truly amazing, fun and challenging course like no other that will put hair on your chest.
So now the rest is up to you...Do you push it to the limit and give it a go or take a front seat on your couch with your blankey. We'll see you at the starting line!
The Venue: Sprague Brook Park is a multi season park nesteled in the hills of ski country about 30-minutes south of Buffalo on Rt. 240 in Glenwood, NY. About a mile south of Kissing Bridge Ski Resort Foot Rd. takes you to the park entrance. Plenty of public restrooms, parking & wilderness plus a few ponds & playgrounds for the kids. Family fun! With good weather we will have a few lawn games, and of course our Kids Race 80-Meters in the Rough just prior to the awards ceremony. Free for the kids! Please help keep our park clean & watch your speed in the park.
A great post-race party, lunch and terrific door prizes round out the 2010 8 in the Rough.
